Abu Dhabi Seafloor Survey

Extensive, high-resolution seafloor mapping for Abu Dhabi Environmental Agency

The Environmental Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) is responsible for facilitating sustainable development, raise environmental awareness and address environmental issues. Considering these aspects EAD initiated a multi-year program in 2013, which aimed at creating fine-scale land-use, land-cover and habitat maps for the entire Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The objective of the initiative was to provide baseline data layers to support informed decision making for better preservation of the natural heritage. EAD contracted the project to a consortium of companies to develop the habitat, land use and land cover maps from high resolution satellite imagery. EOMAP provided seafloor habitat information for approximately 30,000 km² of Abu Dhabi waters. Prior to this program a complete, high resolution, and temporally significant seafloor composition data set was not available for this area.
